Breast reduction

In many cases, overly large breasts can lead to health restrictions, and as a result, it is also possible to no longer feel comfortable in one’s own body. However, a smaller breast size can be achieved by the so-called reduction mammoplasty. Breast gland tissue, fatty tissue and excessive skin are removed during this procedure. Often the nipple is also relocated in this process.

During breast reduction surgery, there are similar surgical techniques used as during the breast lift. These can be, for example, the L or T incision, or the Lejour technique. Each of these methods has individual advantages and disadvantages, which are discussed in a personal consultation with the plastic surgeon or the attending specialist. Usually, breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia, followed by an overnight stay in the hospital for further monitoring.

The possibilities of complications are also similar to those of a breast lift. For example, the nipples may lose their sensitivity due to a lack of blood circulation, also a more frequent wound healing disorder may occur. This will be explicitly discussed beforehand during the medical consultation.

It is important to note that in the event of complications and/or follow-up treatments after a breast reduction performed for aesthetic reasons, the health insurance companies will no longer cover the full costs of the medically necessary treatments. The associated financial risk for the patient can be absorbed by taking out our safe4beauty cosmetic surgery insurance.
